Hermanus Lerm's Corner Saturday Arts and Crafts Market
Carols by Candlelight - The Rotary Club of Hermanus presents an evening of carols in the Old Harbour arena on the last Friday before Christmas. Bring your picnic basket and chairs and enjoy the sing-a-long. Entrance is by way of a donation in aid of charity for your “candle in a bottle” and hymn sheet.
Easter Pageant (Courtesy Overberg Media) - The annual Easter Passion play staged in the Old Harbour on Good Friday has become a major event on the Hermanus cultural calendar, which thousands attend.
The play depicts the life of Jesus Christ from birth to crucifixion, with the cliff walls of the harbour providing the stage. Several dozen local people participate in the production which is enhanced by lighting, music and laser effects. With its spectacular cliffs, gentle grass slopes and constant background music provided by the sea, the Old Harbour must certainly rate as one of the most spectacular amphitheatres in the world.
Hawston Sea Festival (Courtesy Overberg Media) - This festival is held annually at the beginning of December at the Hawston camping site next to the ocean. Fresh crayfish, perlemoen, paella and snoek are available and hundreds of festival-goers from all over the Peninsula stream to the quiet fishing village to enjoy the delicious delicacies. There is entertainment for young and old and festival goers can take a dip in the Olympic size swimming pool.
Fish Bash / Visbash - The popular Fish Bash is held annually April/May in aid of charity. Local teams battle it out in the Onrus caravan park under the milkwood trees, to find out who the best seafood chefs in Hermanus are. The fare is judged by a panel of well known celebrities. There are food stalls, arts and crafts and entertainment for the whole family.
